Ok. What is a peaberry coffee bean? A peaberry occurs when the coffee cherry develops only one bean instead of the normal two. This creates a rounder, smaller bean. This happens in roughly 2-3% of all cherries.
Does it taste different? Well, yes. Peaberries seem to have a certain heightened focus and brilliance. A zest if you like.
What's in a name? Well I've always maintained that if peaberries were instead called, let's say "viagra cherries", the demand would be significantly higher. And you'd probably get a lot more coffee spam. But alas they are peaberries.
Taste: We roast these fairly light so the cup is fruity. At this roast level the Tanzanian character stands out. And shares some the wine character found in quality Kenyas. More like a pinot noir than a cabernet.
